Austin Pharmacy Technician Certification License

Texas pharmacy technicians have to be registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. The initial registration fee is $54 and the renewal fee is $51. Also, you have to have a high school diploma or a GED. Furthermore, you have to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam in order to work as a Texas pharmacy technician. You have to renew your registration every 2 years by completing 20 hours of CE, 1 hour of which must be pharmacy law. Retail pharmacies and other ambulatory settings may have up to 2 pharmacy technicians per pharmacist working in a pharmacy. Institutional pharmacies such as hospitals have no regulations regarding the pharmacy technician to pharmacist ratio.

If you have not passed the PTCB exam, you may register as a Texas pharmacy technician trainee. There is no fee for registration as a Texas pharmacy technician trainee. You may be a Texas pharmacy technician trainee for up to 1 year before you have to register as a Texas pharmacy technician. Texas pharmacy technician trainees are required to have a high school diploma, GED, or enrollment in high school.
